Tampa Bay Area Community
The Joy McCann Foundation encourages the improvement of the Tampa Bay Area community by supporting organizations that strengthen the community’s ability to assure successful, well-rounded, healthy and safe lives for its citizens. The Foundation strives to fill essential gaps in funding or services that will allow recipients to overcome hurdles to success. Special focus is given to organizations designated during the Foundation’s creation.
Education
The Joy McCann Foundation seeks to advance opportunities for school age children to foster academic curiosity and build a strong intellectual base upon which to grow academic skills. Programs in medicine and science for students at the primary and secondary school levels are of particular interest for their capacity to motivate youth to pursue careers in these challenging fields.
Medicine and Science
In recognition of the importance of leadership to the future of science and medicine, the Foundation supports efforts to cultivate valuable leaders and mentors in higher education and to provide resources to ensure research environments are conducive to effective mentorship.
Additionally, the Foundation supports basic and applied medical research that enables continued progress in the research area or forms the basis for further scientific investigation.
Target Populations
The Foundation encourages programs impacting children, students, youth, women and underserved populations. Children are targeted in programs providing academic, athletic and civic enhancement. Programs providing services to women are intended to have impacts that increase opportunities for women beyond the initial outcomes of the program.
